In the restaurant industry, training teams are often asked to fix big challenges – like team member turnover, inconsistent leadership and customer expectation management – without always having the authority to make meaningful changes. Our very own Lindsey Halson, Senior Director of Training and Development, recently discussed this issue and more as a featured guest on Latitude Learning’s Training Impact Podcast, and she leaned into her belief that training can only make a difference when it actually shapes behavior – not when people just watch videos, fulfill checklists or sit through classes.

Within the discussion, she also dives into how powerful observation can be for developing leaders. Instead of guessing whether someone gets it, Lindsey believes in using simple tools to help see and gauge where their attention goes during peak training moments. She says, “It’s not about catching mistakes; it’s about building awareness and confidence.”

What’s even more notable about the conversation is that Lindsey’s approach and execution are not theoretical. It’s centered around what actually works when the guest lines are long, the drive-thru headset is buzzing and the pressure is real.
