Bojangles is bringing big flavor and even bigger tradition to the table this football season with the announcement of its partnership as an “Official Tailgate Partner of the Hokies” with the debut of a limited-edition Virginia Tech Lunch Pail-themed Big Bo Box – a bold tribute to one of Hokie Nation’s most iconic symbols.
Inspired by the legendary “Lunch Pail” tradition led by former defensive coordinator Bud Foster, the VT Big Bo Box is available for a limited time at select restaurants in the Blacksburg area. Designed to resemble the lunch pail Foster once carried on game days as a metaphor for hard work and dedication, the collectible Big Bo Box celebrates Virginia Tech’s hard-nosed, hard-earned approach to success – on and off the field. A video announcing the partnership is linked here.
“When it comes to tailgating in Hokie country, it doesn’t get more iconic than the lunch pail,” said Jason Gilbert, VP of Operations for the Bojangles franchise in Blacksburg, Randolph Restaurant Group. “We just put our own flavorful spin on it and packed it full of chicken, biscuits and Virginia Tech pride.”
“Bojangles’ support of the Lunch Pail Defense Foundation means a lot to me personally, and it goes a long way in helping us impact lives and build a culture of hard work, toughness, and community,” said Bud Foster, former defensive coordinator for Virginia Tech. “Thank you, Bojangles, for believing in our mission.”
The Virginia Tech Lunch Pail Big Bo Box is available as part of Bojangles’ popular Big Bo Box lineup, which includes Southern staples like hand-breaded chicken, scratch-made biscuits, fixins and Legendary Iced Tea. A portion of proceeds will be given to Foster’s Lunch Pail Foundation in support of its ongoing mission to provide scholarships to Virginia-area students.
To celebrate, Bojangles will host an in-restaurant event at the Christiansburg location on Wednesday, Sept. 3. From 2 to 5 p.m., fans can meet Bud Foster in person, snag autographs and even see him working the drive-thru window.
The limited-edition packaging will be available throughout the 2025 football season while supplies last.
